Hi Kevin; I would just like to know who makes the Shadelicious that you demonstrated on season(4),episode(4)—small swimbaits? Was it made by Yum and if it was, did they quit making them. The closest is the money minnow?:roll:
From everything I have heard and seen on videos, the answer is yes, use a swimbait weighted hook. I prefer Gamagatzu Hooks that I found at BassPro Shops online.
You really need a weighted hook to get the lure to “dance” side to side. Sometimes you dont, but usually you do.
3/0 with 3”, 4/0 with 4”, 5/0 with 5”, 6/0 with 6”, 7/0 with 7”... you see the pattern? LOL
gothcha, i have some 7” zoom flukes i use a 6/0 and 7/0 weighted hooks on.
That’s a little big for a fluke. With a fluke, if you go up in your hook size then you take away the action of the bait. I use a 4/0 for all of my super flukes and it works just fine. Even a 3/0 will work but I just have more confidence in a 4/0 for flukes.

And you dont want to use weighted hooks on flukes as it absolutely kills the action unless you are fishing 10’+ of water.
these are not the 5” super flukes, these are 7” magnum flukes, which i have never used. i think i got them in pearl, baby bass and watermelon/red flake. a 5/0 hook just looks to small for these monster flukes. a 6/0 or 7/0 just seems to match better. i’ve tied one on and rigged it up but never threw it. i just have 0 confidence in soft plastic swimbaits. i’ve thrown them and thrown them and have never even gotten a bite. now the super flukes i use for trailers on spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and some swimming jigs.
