I use a 7/0 Mustad Beast with 6” Basstrix. Best hooks I have found so far.
5/0 EWG with that 7” fluke. I fished them last year and did fine with that hook.

The problem i have there are no real baitfish in the ponds that the bass have to eat. No big balls of shad, No shad. they eat bluegill but i have yet to see any bass school up to attack and eat the bluegill. that’s when swimbaits shine is on actively feeding bass. there may be some of that going on but from the bank, i can’t get my bait to it. it is not that great of a search bait for me. i would rather use a crank, lipless, spinnerbait, chatterbait to search and cover water. a couple of the ponds are just big flats, no deep ledges or holes or deep water off a flats, they get clogged with weeds in late spring to late fall and the best bait then is a frog.

This year there are some ponds i have never fished and from the maps, they do have some deep water. i’m definitely going to fish them even though they are a ways away. the 5 ponds i fish are all within 5 miles and easy to get to. but all these ponds are all highly pressured which makes it tougher.

they all need to be restocked but that costs a lot of money. i will be reitred in 53 days and will be able to fish these ponds when they are the least pressured, just when they open the gates, i’ll be making the first casts.

Wind out of the north, fishermen should not venture forth
Winds out of the south, blows the bait in the fishes mouth
Winds out of the east, fish bite the least
Winds out of the west, fish bite the best
