Well, I went out on my first fishing trip this year the other day.( I’m a pretty big deer hunter so thats had me tied up ha). Well, I only caught one, he was pretty nice 5 1/2-6er. I caught him on a frog on top of lillypads. I threw this because I had thrown just about everything else, no luck.  Then, day before yesterday, me and my brother went along with couple friends, seperate boats. 4 hours of fishing, fish count 0, 2 dink bites. I guess what im asking is any advice on lure selection, approach, depth? The lake runs from 2-14 ft deep. Hardly any visible structure, not a whole whole lot of structure in general, lilly pads in the back of lake ranging 2-4 ft deep. Hazy waters. Degrees ranging 57-60 degrees. We tried trick worms wacky style, t-rig magIIs, 6XDs, KVD2.5s(sexy, tiger striped), Rodents etc, and spinner baits. Just some feedback/advice/discussion topic. Hopefully helpful for me and others. Thanks everyone.

Well H, it sounds like you did all the right things.  In that situation I maybe would have downsized my baits to 1/4 oz.  A black/blue 1/4 oz. Jig and pig or tube bait bounced or drug slowly along the bottom.  I believe your fish are looking to spawn so maybe fish the drop outside the lilly pads or other likely spawning areas.  Just my opinion.  Good luck and keep us posted.

i’d fish the heck out of those pads with just about everything i had. it’ll be early May before the water temps get that high here. enjoy the fishing while you can. try something totally off the wall that you would never think of using. Like a Johnson’s Silver Minnow, a bait just about everyone has but doesn’t fish it anymore

Well it’s been around 60-70 degrees here, south mississippi, hopefully the water temp will rise a few degrees in the next week or 2. I think that my help out a big. I felt lost, that’s my home lake, you know? I think i’ve been to that lake Maaaaybe once without catching fishing in the past 2 years. I’ma wait a couple days, well I may hit it this weekend that was both evenings outings, I’m try a morning outing here pretty soon see if that makes better results. Fish it a little slower.. I will post results afterwards! Good luck fishing everyone!

You have warmer water than we have in Texas, at least dallas area. Weather is close but the water here cant be near 60. It should start picking up, the spawn is usually end of feb.

yes, some lakes. I think in West texas they are still low. We got a huge 12 hour rain recently that brought some lakes up 5’. I know the smaller lakes i fish came up about 8’ and are full pool now.
