Ok, Im not a huge fan of Ike on the water although he is a decent guy, but his saying to Never Give Up is something everyone should follow. The last few days here we have had fronts go thru, several days of clouds, north winds that sometimes were near 50 mph, never have gotten past a winter pattern anyway has made it tough. I have been walking the banks of this little lake cause its close to home and I can go every night. The bite has not been good since the early part of winter. I have gone 4 days in a row and its been slow, so last night I go, its in low 40’s outside, high winds, raining and had just dropped 25 degrees in a few hours, I start throwing a senko type bait with the same result as the whole last week, about 1 bite in 2 hours and those bites wouldnt hold on. Normally a person says the fish just arent biting and heads home, thats what I would have done..But I started thinking about thse quotes…KVD, Its all about the Attitude and IKE, Never Give Up. Im really type A and I hate to admit defeat or lose. As much as im in expreienced at drop shotting, I rigged up a drop shut, with the same bait as I had been trying to Texas rig…Boom, In the next hour and a half I caught approx 20 fish that will all go from 2 lbs to 3 lbs, This has worked well for 2 days now.
My point is, i could have used my excuse of…They arent biting, when actually they were, I just had to have it off the bottom and a slower presentation. Instead of going home defeated, I feel like I beat the odds when all others at the lake were getting whopped. Dont give up, play with things you dont normally fish, try new things, use your instincts…You can catch fish on days where you would normally just leave.
