Anybody know why KVD only uses the 800 or 900 series humminbird on the front of his boat versus the bigger 1100 units like everyone else?

The only reason I can think of, and Im saying this without any research on Humminbirds products, is because the smaller screen typically has better resolution.
From my person view point, structure fishing really doesnt require a larger unit up front. A 998 would work perfectly considering most of the time the unit will be displaying your GPS rather then your sonar. Running a split-screen with a larger GPS and smaller sonar is how I do it.
Locating the structure/fish/bait is done at the console. I think he has both the 998 and 1198 located there.

I saw one of the pros at Pickwick Lake had 2 HDS 10 units on the front deck. I thought that was a little over kill. Well maybe a lot of over kill.

Yea, that is over-kill. I know some guys run a second graph thats bow-mounted in case their larger unit craps out on them…..but its usually a 5 incher.
