when your froggin beef it up. heavy rod and heavy braid. I dont frog much at all, I mostly fish for smallmouth. Some of the other guys on here will be able to help you out though

Are you fishing from a boat or from the bank?

I wouldnt go any smaller then a 7ft, and since its thick vegitation, I would go with a Heavy with a fast tip. If the grass was less dense, then I would suggest a MH so you can “walk” your frog.
If you’re fishing from the bank I’d go with a longer rod for better leverage. 7’3-7’6H range
I always fish a frog on a 7.x:1 reel.
I use 50lb braid up to 65lb. From the bank, Id go either 65 or 80 (again…..more power to horse one out since you cant go to it)

My set-up is a 7MH Tour ROJAS frog rod with a KVD Tour 7.3:1 reel and 50lb braid.

That is about all I throw, sometimes shorter.

I use a 7’H with 65# braid and a 6:3 reel.

My Current set up for froggin is a 7’6 carbonlight H Xfast with a j morris gold 7:1 65lb power pro. As stated before, do not go under 7’ You need the leverage to pull the fish out of all that junk.

I was gonna suggest looking at a 6’9” H XF seeing the thread title about “short distance” thinking more of a pitching in heavy vegetation rod. But I don’t consider 20-30 yards short distance where you need/want a shorter rod for casting accuracy & would suggest/use a 7-7’6” MH to H power rod(depending on company, some MHs are stouter than other companies H powered rods) with either F or XF tip. Reel I’d go with a 7.x:1(although a 6.x will work, just not ideal from my perspective) & 50-65lb braid is an absolute must.
