I just picked up 2 of the BPS exclusive Quantum KVD reels last week and so far I really like them.  If you have the Father’s Day catalog, you can get them for $89…and they have lefties, that’s what I got.

As for rods, I personally have my eye on the St Croix Mojo Bass jerkbait/topwater rod.  Has a nice feeling action, bit of spring in the top, but not too much…I juat got one of the spinnerbait models, and really like it.

Is it the KVD PT reel or the KVD “code” reel you got for that price?

It’s this one:

http://www.basspro.com/Quantumreg;-KVD-Signature-Series-Baitcast-Reels/product/10210407/65789?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL

It shows up as $109 still on the website, but it’s listed as $89 in the father’s day sale catalog, if you called I’m sur they’d give you that price.  In fact we got this flyer 2 days after my wife ordered my 2 for my birthday, and I called and got them to refund the difference.  In fact, I think I might grab a 3rd with a gift card I just got…

I’m thinking about trying a Quantum TOUR Swindle Sig Series rod. He has both a 6’6M and a 7ML designed specifically for poppers and walkers.
Ive seen a few on BBC for $100-125 shipped

My vote goes to a Lew’s.  They are priced great and they are very low profile making it much more comfortable to palm them.  This really helps when walking a sammy or a spook.

he said cheap guys like in the 60-80 dollar range. all good suggestion but i don’t think he is looking to spend that much. if you have to go with spinning rod and reel, it’ll work and you can pick them up much cheaper than baitcasting.

How about this reel? http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-RCX-Power-Fishing-Baitcast-Reels-Left-Handed/product/10205036/60953

It will match your Mojo and balance it at the same time.

I’m using the Mojo jerkbait (6’6” M fast) with a Carbonlite.

Nothing wrong with Lew’s reels.  I have 12 of the Tournament Pro’s. Very solid reel, easy to palm.

There are quite a few deals out there on the 99$ retail model.  Ebay as others have said..even a quick google might pull up a sale somewhere on them.

I love my Lew’s reels!  I own 2 Tournament’s and a Speed Spool.  Believe it or not, I actually prefer them over my Revos.

Reels for topwater I like a 6:1 reel that way you don’t over work the bait.  Walking baits is all about getting in a rythym and keeping a little slack in the line to get the bait to walk side to side.

Rods I like a 6’6” or 6’9” M action rod, the light tip will let you launch the bait out and also let the fish get the bait easier.

Line I use 14-15 lb green mono.
