Went to the St Croix factory today and bought 2 new St Croix Legend Tournament rods.  The regular price for these rods is $240 each.  Because of a VERY slight scratch (that I had to look really closely to find), the rods were $120 each. cheese No other defect….just the same scratch it would have the instant it was put down on my boat.
The second rod actually had no scratch,....just a slight dulling of the finish on a part of the blank smaller than the top of a pencil eraser.

One Medium Heavy and one Medium.

I love a great deal.

They do have great deals at the factory, I bought a spinning rod there a number of years ago basically for half off because of a similar defect, some minor dulling of the finish for one reason or another….I thought for sure I was missing something.

I was on my way back home from Eagle River WI.  I was fishing one of the GREAT smallmouth bass lakes around anywhere.  In 5 hours of fishing one day, and 3 hours the second day….I boated over 40 fish with most in the 3 pound range.  Caught 2 over 5 pounds and a few others just under 5.
Had stable weather and the fish were going crazy.

Caught every one of those fish on one of “your” baits….a ZOOM fat albert 5” grub !!!

Where are you in the UP?  I was stationed at KI Sawyer from 1990 - 1992 - LOVED the UP.

Very nice. I recently got my first Croix, an LX, I really like it, although I’ll have to find some new water to fish to use it, since my usual haunts are too weedy for a 7’ ML spinning rod already.

Small world, I just moved from Eagle River about 6 years ago.  Used to work on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest there, now working on the Ottawa NF.  I think I might know the lake you’re talking about, begin with a B?  That lake has some crazy smallmouth action, I used to do half log nesting structure surveys for the Forest and saw some bruisers in that lake.  Sounds like you had a phenomenal day on the water!

Do you ever fish the badwater in iron mountin? I have family up there and will be staying at a cabin right there on the flowage. I love the up!! I consider myself a misplaced yooper.

I haven’t fished any of the water near Iron Mountain yet, but have been meaning to.  Right now I fish mostly northern Wisconsin lakes, but I just found out they have some kind of a bass club near Iron Mountain which schedules around 6 local tournaments a year, so I might have to check them out.  I live in Iron River, about 45 miles west of I.M., so it’s an easy drive to get over there.  Did you use to live in the UP?

The lake is fantastic and deep in the forest.

No my Granpa lives up there, just outside of town. I will be fishing a tournament in Sept up there. Nice smallies and some real nice Largemouth in there.
