I’ve been fishing with power pro for several years and have had no issues. I usually get 30# for all my reels. Last year I’ve had no problem with it and continued to love the stuff.

Well… this year I bought 2 new combos and spooled them with 30# Power Pro that I bought from Gander and have issues with the line breaking during casting.

There are 2 combos that still have line on them from last year and they don’t give me any trouble, it’s just the new set ups.

What is happening is when that dreaded back lash or bail closing occurs during a cast (happens maybe once a week) the line simply breaks! and my lure goes sailing!
If this happens with the older braid from last year, it doesn’t break.

Did PP go cheap-O and change something?

A buddy of mine said there are 2 locations this stuff is made (Mexico, or Japan or somewhere like that) and if you get the wrong stuff is sucks… is this true???

So confused and am loosing hope in PP. I love braid and will continue to use it because it lays out nicely and doesn’t have memory like most mono.

Tight lines!

Ive seen lures fly off if a backlash occurs with braid. As for PowerPro, I’ve never had any errors with this line unless its “user error” It couldve been a “bad batch” from them, but they are fairly consistant. I’m not sure what else it could be but from what I undertand is their quality has not changed.

Ok. Thanks.

Reason I ask is that last night this happened and believe it or not the end of the line that broke became burried in the spool and I was unable to find it, so I’ll be getting new line and was wondering if I should get more PP or go with something else? It’s on a 200E7 currado paired with a 7’4” glass Mojo bass rod that i mainly use for shallow cranks, spinner baits and buzz baits.

I did that once on my frog rod, I shit the bed by throwing a differnt lure without adjusting the tention knob and brakes and completely destroyed the line that was spooled. Go with power pro again. I’ve used that new suffix braid, which is awesome as well.

It makes for an interesting day of fishing when that happens!

Sounds good. I think I"m going to rob the PP of my citica I use for pitching and put that new Suffix ghost braid on citca.

Thanks!

I agree wholeheartedly….I don’t use braid often but the ONLY braid I use is Suffix 832.  Very, very nice stuff. excaim

I would say there was a defect in that batch,  never have had a problem with braid.  I use Power Pro almost exclusively but did try the Suffix 832 last year and I still have it spooled on my frog rod and my heavy cover jig rod.  This year I’m trying the new PP Silk braid on my spinning reels and have to say I really like this stuff.

i run PP and Stren Sonic braid but nothing less than 40 lb test for baitcasters and also run 20 lb stren sonic braid on spinning. i have found on baitcasters 30 lbs and less the tendency to snap of lures is more prevalent. that’s why i use 40 -50 bs now and have never snapped off a lure yet, knock on wood.

That sounds weird. I would contact PP and tell them what is happening.

Last night I took the PP line off my pitching reel and spooled it on my casting setup, since I wasn’t planning on pitching. The line was from a different spool bought from gander as well. I had 1 back lash while casting into the wind and no snap. Could have been a fluke? but this stuff seems to be ok. I’m hoping it was just a bad batch.

I’ll continue to buy PP since It’s relatively in expensive and I just plain ol like the stuff.

I’ll keep ya posted if anything changes over the weekend during my tournament. If it happens with this stuff, I’ll def be calling PP to see what the deal is.

Tight lines!
