Im goin out sunday to a pair of lakes (pine & stone) that are pretty much crystal clear. I have fished this place before and its always tough fishing. What color / kind of lure would you use in super clear water? Forcast says it should be overcast tomorow also.
Im heading to Bass Pro later today so just wanted to know if there was something i should pick up.
Thanks in advance:)

6” finesse worm on a shaky head with 8lb fluoro. Or 5” senko on 10lb fluoro.

If you find active fish, a small 1.0 or 1.5 crankbait in a natural color should work.

Exactly what i needed to know. Thank you BBK. I always have a senko tied on(but its on braid). This will be the perfect time to try the shaky heads that have been in my tackle box since last year, that and the robo worms i finally found at bass pro..

Nothing wrong with using braid, my #1 choice of line. But for super clear water, tie on a 6’ fluorocarbon leader to the bait.

Generally I suggest just using the braid and not worrying about it, but this time of year they are already skittish unless you are still in pre-spawn. The leader helps.

fast moving baits like a spinnerbait, double willow white skirt or white/chartreuse or a lipless crank in chrone /blue back might work also especially if there is a little ripple on the water. keep the baits moving quickly and only a foot or 2 deep so the bass don’t get a good look at the lure. the ripple on the water will help break up the sight lines of the bass. Being overcast should work in your favor. Try a lipless crank to see if you can bust some active fish. Any kind of natural color should be ok. Then I’d go with some kind of plastic in black or greens.(Senko, lizard or finesse worm). Fluro will help in crystal clear water….good luck!

Hard baits try transparent baits with bait fish finishes like a ghost bluegill or clear sexy shad.  For soft plastics try to match the either the bottom or weed colors, browns and greens.  Use flouro line or at least a flouro leader.

Thanks everyone. It turned out to be a decent day for us. We fished for about an hour without anything. Then my uncle caught a few small bass on a senko,  I tried a robo worm on a shakey head with no luck( but i have no confidence using this), then tried a lipless crank still nothing. I tried a plastic craw on a football jig but got nothing.

After about two hours my grampa caught a nice crappie. I figured maybe there was more in the same spot so i started casting my UL with a jig. Well for the next hour or so we were just slamming them into the boat.  My uncle ended up tossing down his bass rod and throwing out a jig as well. We ended up with colse to 20 keepers and at least 30 we put back between us 3. Most were in the 10-12” range but we did get a monster that was all of 15”+ long. It was the biggest crappie i have ever seen. Good times with the uncle and Grampa!

Good job!  Try and clarify what type of fish you’re targeting in your posts and you will get more specific responses.

Huh, I had no target fish in mind. The responses i got were perfect and exactly what i needed. We fished for bass for a while but they were not biting so we switched over and fished for panfish. Sorry to confuse…

It’s awesome you got them figured out It sounds like you had a really good day out there Pond-Prowler.  If you are still looking for suggestions for lures, in case you go back,  would say a green pumpkin tube.  I fish them quite a bit when I visit the northern part of Michigan. There are a ton of clear water lakes up there.

Low confidence is a hard thing to overcome but those worms on shakeyheads are money, once you start using them successfully you’ll see. Just keep on truckin.

Super clear water? Double willow spinnerbaits work great especially if the bass are on shad. Light colored salty tubes work great too.

Definetly try out a natural colored 2-5 inch shad body or flat body crankbait
