I am heading to St. Clair on June 2nd. we are looking to fish for Smallmouth and muskies. Staying not far from metro beach. Was told Anchor Bay was good in the spring. With the warmer winter and spring, has this changed? What is a good pattern for small mouth this year at this time. I am sure I have the tackle, just looking to jump start my trip as I only have 3 days to fish.  was on St. Clair a few years back in early september and caught 2 rock bass and a sheep head drifting from Metro to 9 mile tower. I am looking for a better catch this time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The mile markers have been on fire as of late,  8-10 fow then moving deeper as the day goes on.  Dragging tubes have been the ticket so far with a couple ciming on a dropshot.  Also trysoft jerkbaits, crankbaits and small swimbaits.  If the wind nlows you off the lake head into yhe canals around Metro Beach and pitch tje breakwalls for largemouth will also catch some pike in there and once in a while a musky.

The biggest Muskies I have caught in St. Clair have been off Ford Point, which is south of Metro, but most all the bays will hold good ones.  The bay directly north of Metro also holds good fish.  As for SM, Q-man pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Geoff, I got my “hot spot” map of St. Clair out and I can not find “Ford Point” that you mentioned. I have also purchased a lakemaster chip for my 898si hummingbird.  And since Muskies are our “first” target, any help locating this spot is greatly appreciated. And don’t worry, I will (hopfully) be posting many pictures upon my return. thanks a ton.

Ford Point is down near 9 mile, its the big point down there.  The reason its called Ford Point is because the Ford family mansion sits on that prime piece of property, continuing south is the Gross Point Yacht Club the grass out side the GPYC is another good area for musky and smallies.

Q-man, thanks so much for all the info. I can’t wait to get out there. this lake owes me one or so, and I am hoping to get that and some more. I will be sure to let you know how we made out upon our return.

Remember that Canadian waters are still off limits,  they have a closed season until the 3rd Sat. in June.  Anywhere up and down the American shore should produce both smallies and musky,  be prepared for alot of sheephead too.  Wish I could meet up with you and go out but my boat is in the shop should get it back some time late next week.  Then I’m going to hit Lake Erie pretty hard for a couple of weeks.

Q-man, I wish I had a little more room on my boat. I have an 18ft crestliner. there are 3 of us on this trip. the one guy is a little older, if he takes a day off, I can shoot you an email if you would like. or shoot me one. I have access to a computer and I have a smart phone. I am not always smart enough to use it, but I am getting there. that would have been awesome if your boat was not in the shop. good luck when you get it up and running. I will definately let you know when i am coming up again to fish. my girlfriend’s daughter lives in Eastpointe.

Look for rock mixed in with weeds and the mayfly hatch will be happening here soon so if you can’t get bit on the bottom then try a slow sinking tube or dropshot in light brown colors to mimic the mayfly.

I live closer to Erie so I spend more time there but still love St. Clair try to get there 5-6 times a year or more,  I camp in Algonac then trailer down and launch in Metro Beach or Harley Henson.  Good luck out there and have fun but be safe.
