Had a great day knocking down post cold front smallies on Green Lake in MN.  Outstanding catches of 3-4 pounders.  Had one 5 as well.
North wind kept the chill on all day, but nothing a sweatshirt could not insulate us from.  This lake is becoming one of my fast favorites.  Outstanding fishery.

I’ve found that cold fronts don’t effect the smallies as much as the largemouth, at least up here in the North.  Largemouth tend to shut right down and bury up in the thickest stuff they can find but the smallmouth get active.  On Erie the nastier the weather the better, calm slick days you can hardly buy a bite but get a slight chop to 1 footers and game on big waves 3-4 footers and they really bite hate fishing in those but they do bite and good then.

Some of my best days have been after cold fronts. Also some of the worst too. Who knows.

Good post. Looking at the map I see we are (upper Mid-west) behind an occluded front.  I believe we are in a high pressure system that, to me, means better smallie fishing.  please correct me if I’m wrong.

1/4oz black jig head with a red 3/0 gamakatsu hook and a zoom fat albert grub in green pumpkin.

Am I close AA?

Yep…Only thing you forgot is the orange fleck in those grubs !!  90% of the fish were caught on this rig.

(I actually caught the biggest one on an unpainted jig head and smoke colored grub.) The water was so clear I was worried the watermelon might be a bit too bright.

Today we are in high pressure.  I was fishing Thursday and Thursday was a north wind post cold front passage. If I posted that it was a different day, that’s about par for the course.  I never can remember what day it is. Man getting’ old is rough !!  shut eye
Yeah…I see now my original post says June 1.  We were fishing May 31, which was Thursday. Sorry.

Gahh, that darn orange flake!

Unpainted huh? see you don’t need those fancy colored jigs… even in clear water!
