I use the same setup for flukes that I do for Senkos - Okuma 6’10” MH C3 baitcasting rod with an Okuma Citrix reel.

Wow, its been a while since I’ve thrown flukes. I always used to fish them weightless in open water. For 5"ers I used a 6’4 ML KVD baitcaster and 10# mono. For 4"ers I used a 6’6 M spinning rod and 8lb mono or 10# braid.

I guess a few times I did throw them around some pads at one spot, I used the 5” green pump flukes to imitate a bluegill feeding in the pads. I used a 7’ MH baitcaster and 17# mono and fished them topwater so they jumped out of the water on each pop.

I have 3 setups that I primarily use for flukes. They are as followed:

Shimano Curado 50e with 15lb Seaguar Abrazix on a 6’9” MH F micro Veritas
Shimano Curado G6 with 12lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid on a 7’ MH F Kistler Helium
Daiwa Zillion 7.1 with 15lb Seaguar Abrazix on a 7’MH F Kistler Helium

I use a 7’2MH Quantum Tour Hackney rod. He designed this rod for the Strike King Ocho and Zero.
Great rod. Has many uses.

I pair it with a Quantum TE100HPT and 17lb fluoro.

I use the same rod as twitch but pair mine with a Quantum Kinetic baitcaster 7:1 gear ratio and 15 lb flouro.  Windy days I will rig it on a spinning rod 7’ MH with 12 lb flouro.

I haven’t thrown flukes hardly at all, but if I did, it’d probably be on my Powell Endurance 723CXF with Revo MGX-SHS & 15lb fluorocarbon. Speaking of 15lb fluoro, I need to re-spool that set-up after backlashing & getting a big tangle halfway to the backing last night.

For 4” - 5” Flukes I use a 7’ MH spinning outfit spooled with 30-40 lb. Fireline and a section of 10-12 lb flourocarbon leader.  For 7” Flukes I switch to a 7’ MH baitcasting outfit with a 6.6 or 7:1 gear ratio reel spooled with 12-15 lb. fluorocarbon.
