I have always had evinrude but I bought a new Nitro in 2010 with a Merc 115. I noticed a knocking sound in the foot I guess when it is in reverse. The motor ran great on the water all day with no problems. I have read reviews about these motors having this clutch noise but it sounds worse in reverse. It is still under warranty but the dealer is 100 miles from home. I don’t want to take it in if I am being paranoid. Has anyone experienced this problem? Do I need to worry?

I would have taken it in during the off season when I wasnt using it.

Does it just knock when you put it into reverse, or the whole time it is in reverse?

I have a buddy with a 100 merc 4 stroke that knocks real hard when you put it into reverse, but once it gets into gear it runs fine. Scared the chit out of me the first time I drove it.

Call your dealer and see what they say before you burn up your day hauling it down there.
I have an 225 Optimax ProXS and it doesnt knock in reverse.

Every Merc Ive had had a thunk when I put it in reverse.
