The Jerkin’ Chub is 1/2 done. I sculpted it all up and poured the first half of the mold today. Tomorrow I can pour the second half and hopefully show you guys a completed bait on Thurs. Going to be sweeet, just hope it fishes well. It is 5.5” long, so should be good for bass as well as pike.

Well, I poured the first bait today. As you can see the bottom tail fin didnt come out all the way, but I only had time for one try today (mold takes 20 minutes to cool after each bait).

It still needs eyes, waiting on them to show up. And then a clear coat on it to seal the eyes and that hole in the middle.

The hole in the middle is from the internal support, it has a tube inside that will not allow the brass eye to pull out.

You rig it by putting your line down through the brass eye, then tie on a treble hook and stick it in the bottom of the bait. Maybe I’ll snap a picture of a rigged one tomorrow. It is basically just a soft plastic jerk bait, like a zoom fluke on steroids.

5.5” and about 1oz without weights. It may need a nail weight in the belly, but we’ll find out when I go to test it.

It isnt the best looking bait in the world, but I gave it my best shot.

I’ve been playing with it in the test pond today, has a very unique action on the jerk. I had to add a finishing nail to the belly so it would sink a little faster, the treble wasnt enough weight. It sinks real slow almost horizontally, then when I jerk it sort of lays 1/4 of the way on its side and kicks real hard to the side with a good action on the tail, then it rights itself back over and falls horizontally again. A big bass or pike should swallow this thing.

Any ideas on how to make it weedless? Thinking maybe a 8/0 or 6/0 beast hook, and then pour them without the brass insert.

It looks good man! I have no clue how you would make it weedless. It looks to be fairly thick so getting it texposed could be a problem. The only way I could think of it being weedless is by rigging it sideways.

Does sleeping with the fishes equate to basstiality? LOL LOL LOL

Everything home made, I designed it all myself and did everything myself. RTV mold.

Cool BBK, I’m still doing the resin. I’ve been thinking about trying an RTV mold though.

It is very easy to work with. A little messy, but very easy and makes great molds.

Do you have a hobby lobby near you? you can sign up to their email list on their site and they will send you a 40% off one item coupon that can be used in store or online. They carry alumalite RTV, that is what I used. I think it was like $17.99 plus tax for 1lb. I got 5 centipede molds out of 1lb. The 2pc mold for this bait used half a pound.

Even if you only get 2 molds from a pound (14 fluid oz), that is less than the cost of an RTV mold from Lurecraft.

I tell you what, it sure is easy to pour and demold baits with the RTV. I think I’m using RTV from now on. Speaking of that, I should pick up another pound and do some more centipede molds… too slow pouring them 48 at a time.

Your right, it is a lot easier to demold RTV. I have some LC RTV molds and they’re a breeze. Sometimes the resin molds can be tough to demold.
