My team took second place and second big bass today in the KVD/Detroit Lions charity tournament.  Got a really nice prize pack including a 7’4” KVD Tour cranking rod, Tour KVD cranking reel, KVD Oakleys, BPS 100 MPH jacket, crankbaits, Detroit Lions hat and a football autographed by the Lions.  Plus a $250 Carhartt card for second big bass.  The whole Bassmaster stage and crew were there to conduct the weigh in so I got to walk across the Stage and talk to Dave Mercer.  Jerry Mcinnis was there and fished in the tournament along with Zona, JVD, Timmy Horton and Micheal Simington from the Elites.  A bunch of the Detroit Lions were on hand fishing as well and the head coach Jim Swartz.  Was a really great day and a lot of fun.

Yeah he fished the Lions head coach Jim Swartz.  Mark Zona, Timmy Horton, Kim Striker, JVD, Jerry McInnis and Micheal Simonton(Elites) were also there and fishing.

14 lbs 9 oz won, second was 13 lbs 1 oz then 3rd thru 5th were bunched up in the 11 lb and change area.  Big bass was 5 lbs then we got second big bass with a 3 lb 9 oz largemouth that I caught, we had a smallie that was real close to that mark too that one of my partners Ben caught.  We caught all of our fish casting or pitching a texas rigged sweet beaver/rodent to deeper weeds, concentrated in the 9-11 foot depths near the river channel.  The winning team was in the same area but throwing wacky rigged 4” stick baits.  At one point I looked around to see Zona a 100 yards to the west,  Timmy Horton about 50 yards to the North, the winning team about 50 yards to the East and JVD another 50 yards past them to the East.  It was a great day just meeting and fishing with so many great anglers(have to admit though I almost pissed myself when I pulled in the parking lot and saw KVD’s, Stricker’s, Zona’s, JVD’s and Randy Vandam’s boats all sitting there and Jerry McInnis, Greg Mangus, Micheal Simonton and Gerald Gostnick all standing around Zona’s boat.)

Congratulations! Man, that must have been some kind of cool to be around all those guys, not to mention being up on the stage with them. Wow. I’m jealous!
