2008 Elite Series - Lone Star Shootout

Preview

The Bassmaster Elite series rolls into Zapata, Texas this week to visit a body of water that many of its pros have never seen before, much less fished – Lake Falcon on the Rio Grande River.

When it comes to Falcon, there’s really no need for wordy introductions. This jewel of a reservoir tucked away in southwest Texas is flat-out on fire. And if early reports are any indication, this event could be one that BassFans remember for a long time.

All the hype leading up to this event has been about how records could be shattered as long as the weather holds up. So far, it’s looking like the Elite Series pros are going to have a stable set of conditions to work with, and that means the potential for astronomical weights.

Tour Review

Huge bags at LoneStar

Kevin called in and talked about how he was able to keep pace with nice sized limits, but just missed out on hitting the few spots that yielded the 1 or 2 huge bass needed to win the Lonestar Shootout 08. He did note that Falcon Lake has to be the best bass lake in the country for size and stock of fish after what was seen this past weekend.

day 4 report

Kevin acknowledges being disappointed with his final day in the Texas waters for the Lonestar shootout. Having spectators beat him to his spot early on the final day of competition. For now KVD moves on to the Battle on the Border in the same week.

Day 2 report

Amazing bags coming in. Aaron Martens is tearing up the field with record back to back days of near 40 pounds! KVD is steady, but will need a huge bag on day 3 to leap up into the top 12.

Day 1 explosion

A normally huge bag of 25+ pounds for KVD on day one was good enough for 43rd place. Kevin will look to move up the ladder and hang with the 40+ pound bags that are out there in Texas.

Covering 78,300 acres, Falcon was built on the Rio Grande in 1954. Elite Series pros like Alton Jones have long raved that Falcon is even better than Amistad, and most believe triple digit catches will be necessary to have a chance to win the Lone Star Shootout.
